How a Good Plumber Makes All the Difference

plumberNo one wants to hire a bad plumber, but not everyone knows why they need to hire an exceptionally good plumber. In this post, we’ll try to explain some of the reasons for how a good plumber will do more than just fix the problem at hand.

Prevents Damage to the Pipes

When a skilled plumber is called on to clean or unclog your drains, the last thing they should ever do is pull out a bottle of chemical drain cleaner. Not only is this lazy (and something you could have done on your own), it’s actually one of the worst things you can pour down your drains. Hard to believe, but it’s true. These chemicals slowly eat away at everything in their path, and your pipes are no exception.

The same can almost be said for drain snakes. Now, don’t get us wrong—drain snakes are perfectly acceptable for a professional to use. They’ll choose to use them when it’s most appropriate for the job. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said of an amateur.

The hand-crank snakes that they sell at hardware stores might help you get the job done, but it comes at the risk of leaving unsightly marks on your fixtures and scraping the pipes.

Reduces Damage to Your Home

A lot of plumbing work is done underground, behind the walls, under the floors… So when something goes wrong with your plumbing in McKinney, TX, it typically means having to cut through the drywall, dig up the yard, or even tear up your flooring. And that’s not something we need in our daily, stressful lives.

A good plumber knows this. After all, they’re there to fix your pipes, not tear down your home. Using a combination of techniques and tools, various leak detection methods exist to help plumbers find the source of the leak.

One tool in particular is the video pipe inspection camera. This is a camera lens attached to a line that is then fed into a drain or water line. By inspecting the inside of the pipes, a plumber can find the source of a number of plumbing problems without having to dig up your yard or tear down the walls.

Finds the Correct Water Filtration

Any plumber can tell you to get a reverse osmosis system. But is it really what you need?

When it comes to water quality, a good plumber is going to do a proper water test. Based on factors like how it’s treated and where it came from, water quality can differ drastically from area to area. The same is true even of water that comes from a well. A proper water test is going to tell you what kind of contaminants exist in your water.

Only from there can a plumber make the proper assessment about what kind of water filter or treatment system you may need. While a reverse osmosis system, for example, is certainly an effective way to treat your water, it’s not always necessary for every home. For some, the maintenance required of this system might be overkill if all they truly need is the right filter.
